mdw-Campus (Anton-von-Webern-Platz 1, 1030 Wien)
On June 17 and 18, the ICGP Gender Studies lecture series Performing Challenges will take place at the mdw campus. The symposium focuses on questions regarding the conditions, potentials, challenges, and practices of solidarity–understood as solidarity that can certainly be conflictual and challenging, but which is grounded in the premise of mutual interdependence in a shared world. Against the backdrop of current social struggles and lines of conflict, we engage with trans- and queer-feminist theoretical, artistic, and activist explorations of performative practices of solidarity. The focus is on approaches from the fields of music, theater/performance, dance, film, and media art/social media. We look forward to contributions from international scholars and artists as well as colleagues at mdw: Jasmin Degeling, Maja Figge, Philipp Hohmann, Christine Lang, Isabel Lewis, Luce deLire, Rosa Reitsamer, Christina Stuhlberger, Lea Susemichel, Deniz Şimşek, Clarissa Thieme, Wu Tsang, Joshua Wicke. The event kicks off on June 16–17 with the practice-based workshop Stuttering, Stumbling, Falling by Mbongeni N. Mtshali and jackï job (both from the University of Cape Town), held as part of the Erasmus+ cooperation. In this workshop, participants will explore choreographic and scenographic composition using Butoh principles as body techniques for individual and collective image-making. The workshop is open to all students and anyone else interested: there are still spots available! Registration per Mail at icgp@mdw.ac.at.
